Anxious for School to start.....

So we have the count down going........ 17 more days til school starts up again. The kids are excited to learn more FUN things! And this is our last school year here before we move, how EXCITING is that!?!? And the countdown is 10 months til we move, Horray!

Caleb will be in 3rd grade, Liahona will be in 2nd grade, and Tamara will be a BIG Kindergardener... so stay tuned for many new posts from their FUN school work!

Unit Study- Pollination

This was a Unit Study in which we did together to help explain "How Plants Grow." We had many fun, hands on field trips to view, sketch and observe nature. Many neat and exciting new things were learned:
1. Flowers have both male and female parts, to make seeds to grow more flowers.
2. Pollen sticks to bugs.
3. Bees are important.
4. Some flowers are editable.
5. There are many different species of flowers.
6. That perhaps Ted, the Nature Guide was right, that "Plants are trying to take over the world." =)

Unit Study- Photosynthesis

Pioneer Park Class- Nature Hike

Our family got together with another wonderful homeschool family, to do a nature class, through Pioneer Park. As long as you lived in the city limits, it was "free". This class taught the basics of Nebraska; the type of rocks, trees, birds, animals, and plants that live and grow within this state. Me and my friend Kory, hiked with our kids; her 6, and my 4 for 2 hours. They all did fairly well, I thought. Our guide's name was Ted, and he had a funny sense of humor. He told the kids in a joking manner that secretly, "the plants are trying to take over the world." This park is HUGE and just about one of the few prettiest nearby. I think I was one of the first to start complaining that it was going over the 1 and 1/2 hour time limit. The rain clouds started to come in during our hike, and thankfully the rain held up until we were all done with our hike. Making it ONE fun trip for my kids. They can't wait for the next one.

Nature Science Sketch Books

We went on a field trip to our local Gardens, as we did a Unit Study on Photosynthesis and how plants grow.

Homeschool Zoo Classes

Our zoo has such great classes for homeschoolers at a very reasonable cost. My kids have really enjoyed going to the zoo once a month this year to do their schooling for the day. It is a very hands on/ field trip learning type of education that the kids get. And nothing is more fun then getting out of the box and doing things a little different. This one classes was about Animal Behavior, and they got to discover how animals interact with each other and in their habitats. Out of all the tigers in the Cat Complex, they had to find a certain one called Natasha. And then they watched and observed how she behaved. If you have a zoo near you, check out and see if they have any homeschool classes. It is a super FUN way for kids to learn more about nature and REAL world around them. =)

Building the Lincoln Capitol

It has been one of the most newest types of free play lately here, with getting out the legos. Now that baby boy Montey has learned to NOT put most things in his mouth. Here is the capital that Liahona built. She was so proud of her work that I just had to snap a picture of it before someone knocked it down....like her baby brother.

Kids Science Fair Won 2nd Prize

Here are the kids at our Homeschool Science Fair. We entered as a science demonstration instead of a science experiment to help get the kids into this whole "science stuff." They learned a ton on how important bats are.
1. People do not know enough about Bats.
2. bats are important because in just 1 bat they can eat up to hundreds of mosquitoes in minutes.
3. They can see in the dark using Echolocation.
4. They all can sing a great song about how echolocation works.
5. There are many different kinds of bat.


Their hard work put together as a masterpiece, about Bat Conservation.

They had so much fun at this Homsechool science fair that they want to do it again next year.

Geography Lapbook

Caleb's Idaho Lapbook.
This was finished back in February. He loved learning more about this state. He would love to go back and visit where we use to live, and see the hospital of where he was born. If you ask him what is the best state in the United States, he would tell you Idaho!
1. Learned that LOTS of potatoes come from ID
2. ID = Idaho
3. Their state bird, is the Mountain Blue Bird
4. State Capital is Boise
5. State Butterfly is the Monarch Butterfly
