Socalization

Another homeschool funny- Thanks to my friend Beth.
"When my wife and I mention we are strongly considering homeschooling our children, we are without fail asked, 'But what about socialization?--' Fortunately, we found a way our kids can receive the same socialization that government schools provide.On Mondays and Wednesdays, I will personally corner my son in thebathroom, give him a wedgie and take his lunch money.On Tuesdays and Thursdays, my wife will make sure to tease our children for not being in the 'in' crowd, taking special care to pokefun at any physical abnormalities.Fridays will be 'Fad and Peer Pressure Day.' We will all compete to see who has the coolest toys, the most expensive clothes, and the loudest, fastest, and most dangerous car.Every day, my wife and I will adhere to a routine of cursing andswearing in the hall and mentioning our weekend exploits with alcohol and immorality..--.. And we have asked them to report us to the authorities in the event we mention faith, religion, or try to bring up morals and values."

Liahona's Fun Lapbook for September

Liahona loves just about any animal she sees from the zoo to what is on animal planet.

So, she wanted to learn more about Zebras for this month.

Here are just a few things that she learned:

1. There are three different types of Zebras; the Mountain Zebra, the Grey Zebra, and the Pain Zebra.

2. Each Zebra has their own stripe pattern, no two Zebras are alike.

3. A Male Zbra is called a Stallion, and a Female Zebra is called a Mare.

4. A baby Zebra is called a Foal, and a Young Zebra is called a colt.

5. A group of Zebras are called a band.

Caleb's Fun Lapbook for September

He wanted to learn about the bugs here in Nebraska. He loved going out, observing, and exploring our surroundings, for all different kinds bugs.

Here are a few things that he learned:

1. A lady bug has four parts to their life cycle.

2. His new favorite bug vocabulary word that he learn is "Dim". Which means, having little light. Like the cute fireflies that you can see in the spring time here.

3.Crickets make chripping noises by rubbing their wings together.

4.Insects have 6 legs with three sections on their bodies.

5. Spiders have 8 legs with two sections on their bodies.

Scripture Study Lapbook

So this is our August/ September Scripture Study Lapbook:
It contains the Chapters we covered, with at least 6 question the kids had to answer together and on their own. Plus there was a hands on activity that went right along with each chapter. We are really having fun with this and it is helping the scriptures to come alive for the kids. Caleb prefers to read from the scriptures than anything else. This has been a pretty neat experience for us all so far. The kids are really good at reminding me, to always have us start with an opening prayer too. Where would I be without my kido's?

Our Scripture Review Game we made:

Each color represented a certain chapter that we read and talked about together previously. There where 4 markers to choose from, to move your player on the game board; Nephi, Sam, Laman and Lemuel. You started with answering a question of the color you were on, than you got to roll the die to see where you move next, if you got the question right. The point of the game was to try and be the first one to get the brass plates. (Amazingly, Nephi got it on our fist try with our game.)The kids really liked playing this Review game and it was a neat way to see if the kids really were listening during our scripture study time together. Even with reading about Laman and Lemuel being wicked and not obeying, they still fought over who would be Lemuel?? What happen to wanting to be Nephi, someone who is righteous and obedient? Oh well we will have to work on that one.=)

August Month Theme: Space

We use a really fun learning technique called "Lapbooking" for school. It makes the learning really hands on. And kids learn best that way anyhow, plus it's super FUN! This is our Lapbooking Spaceship. It has Pictures of Famous Astronauts, Lots of fun facts of space and astronauts, A place were they wrote down and learned the parts of the spaceship, and holds a personal story book they made about their space travel.

The kids Top 5 favorite things they learned about space:
1. The 1st animal in space was a Dog.
2. The planet Venus has lakes of hot lava on it.
3. The Sun is a Star.
4. Caleb's weight would be 7.5 lbs on the moon, Liahona's weight would be 7lbs, and Tamara's weight would be 4 lbs.
5. On the moon you can jump almost 6 times higher.
Caleb could jump 396 inches high on the moon, and Liahona could jump 366 inches high.
